I see Conservatives are speculating that Roger Gale should retire.

This is a bit of a problem for Tories. Traditionally a Knighthood for a long serving Tory MP was seen as fairly automatic. Then when MPs retired they often expected to get a peerage. Labour’s reforms of the House of Lords means there are far less peerages to go round. Plus it is hard to see what Gale has done to deserve any reward. Defending his good friend Derek Conway?

Not what I expect from an honourable member.

My money is for him to go on and on and on and on.

  1. Well I can't speak for other people, but if it wasn't for Roger Gale helping me out by writing countless letters & emails to various people a couple of years ago, I wouldn't be employed now, despite the fact that he's never even met me & it was of absolutely no benefit to him. In addition, he's one of the very few local dignitories who's always polite & courteous to even the most lowly of staff where I work. A good man.

  2. Well said Peter-my sentiments exactly

  3. Hi Mark interesting article I thought, the link doesn’t work as it has two http://s in it, when you make a link on blogger it already has http:// in the box so you need to be sure to delete it before you paste the url from your browser.

I wonder what the maximum age for an MP starting a new term in parliament should be, I believe the minimum age is 18 and there is no maximum at the moment, probably best not fix what isn’t broken.

  4. Many thanks Michael I think all the links are now working. Yes Roger Gale does good work but please click on the links to see my concern on his judgment.

No maximum age for MPs, it is Conservatives who are suggesting Roger should retire.

  5. Well done with the links Mark, incidentally if you want to put a link in a comment either on your own blog or someone else’s, one easy way to do it is by writing the comment and adding the link where you write your new posts, then clicking on the Edit Html tab and copying it from there to the comments box. When you move away from the new post box it vanishes so you don’t get a strange posting appear on your blog.

  6. I think he should go. There are many he has helped - true of most MPs - but there are many to whom he has come across as a very rude, irritable man with some very right wing opinions and archaic values. I still smart from his refusal to support a gay pride event because he does "not approve of people flaunting their sexuality in public". His (associated) steadfast opposition to equal rights for those in the LGBT community dismisses him from my Christmas Card list!
